Servil Marian | ♂ | 20's | cat
taken by Reuben
occupation; noble heir
personality; quiet, reserved, level-headed, strict, refined, and brought up with the most proper etiquette.
story; Servil was born to one of the wealthiest family's in Nottingham, as the son to Good Man Marian. from childhood, he rarely got a good look at the outdoor world, as he was kept busy studying and training to be the most well mannered, knowledged, most respectable young noble in the county. and while his mother and father were doting, they were also strict, and almost cold--traits he picked up over the years.
in an act sheerly to make himself familiar with the countyfolk, and by some pure, dumb luck, Servil decided to attend Nottingham's annual spring festival for the first time in his life. though only intending on greeting all the men and women and then retreating to a quiet space to continue his studies, Servil found himself enraptured by the liveliness and festivities. upon returning home in the days that followed, he began noticing gifts when he awoke--sometimes very expensive, sometimes simply endearing--and grew curious. someone was sneaking into his room, and rather than making him nervous, he grew inspired. he was charmed by the stranger, and emboldened.
as time passed, Servil met his secret admirer face to face, to learn that Reuben had first seen him at the spring games, and decided to pursue him. though already deeply taken by him, Servil let the relationship between himself and Reuben unfold unhindered by judgement, and slowly became completely vulnerable to his affections. however, despite originally seeing Reuben's thefts as amusing and trivial, he became afraid; as his communicating with the countyfolk became more consistent, he heard whispers and threats towards the man responsible for countless missing items. it was clear that Reuben would be condemned to a terrible fate should he be caught, and so, when the thief himself suggested an elopement, running away and starting a new, quieter life together, Servil was all to eager.
but then, maybe it was impossible. just days before the planned escape, with emotions and excitement rising in both, Reuben was finally caught. Servil heard of the execution late in the day of the trial itself, and perhaps died a bit himself as he ran for Nottingham plaza. he formed countless daring plans of saving Reuben, none of which would or could succeed--as the only thing he carried was the ring signifying their engagement. when Servil saw Reuben, and for years after, he thought of how ironic the scene was--though crowds of people jeered and yelled and insulted him, Reuben still stood above them all. and yet, Servil cried. he had only come in time to plead his sincerest feelings, and yell at him, and be strict, and pretend everything was okay, pretend everything was like it always was, pretend the promise marked in the rings they bore wouldn't be broken, pretend that one would still have the other--
when Reuben died, a good part of Servil died with him. though even in death, Reuben held his promise--slipping the ring onto his own finger just before falling--Servil would never fully recover. as the years flew by, Servil picked up where Reuben left off; leaving his family to steal from the rich and give to the poor, until at last, he too was caught, sharing Reuben's fate proudly, with a head held high.
likes; hot tea, warm beds, everything as it should be, peace and quiet, feeling productive
dislikes; not meeting expectations, running late, messes, hassles, cold meals, Reuben's name
life dream; "to become the respectable noble I was raised to be!!"
