a thousand years - christina perri (instrumental)
The Setting
The story takes place in Seattle, Washington in the year 2045 where technology has reached an all-time high and super-intelligence has been created and achieved through the means of the already existing artificial intelligence.
It is not entirely uncommon for people to verse themselves with the way of artificial intelligence that, at this point, is considered outdated but not exactly obsolete by any means, because AIs are still commonly used.
There have not been many medical advances, however, and illnesses such as cancers still exist and remain incurable

The Characters
The main characters of the story are Wyatt and Allonse, as well as their AI companions, Data, Proxy, Netti, and various others.
Wyatt is a highly intelligent boy with the best grades, an amazing work ethic and a friendly personality. He keeps to himself since he's most commonly labeled as a nerd, and finds himself to be closer with his professors than he does his peers. Wyatt has taken it upon himself to recover some AIs, Data and Proxy, that he had found on a hard drive and brought them to life, raised and personalized them.
Allonse is the complete opposite of Wyatt. He grew up, fulfilling every expectation society threw at him, though as he grew older he began to grow bored with his routine. He acted out by smoking and doing drugs, and assumed he could make statements by tattooing and piercing himself. Allonse also took interest in the artificial intelligence as a gateway for his loneliness, and thus created Netti and various virus bots that infiltrated the school at his command.

The Plot
Allonse and Wyatt meet in their 2nd year of University. allonse is at first seemingly kind and asks Wyatt for simple things, like borrowing his books, pencils, papers, and so on, until he finally shows his true personality and harasses Wyatt when he decidedly attaches himself to his side out of boredom, often using his AIs to track Wyatt's webcam, and other technology to mess around with him.
Wyatt is less than receptive towards Allonse's behavior, and while at first hating him, Allonse's harassment became the norm for him. He actually began to enjoy his company (while never admitting so), and despite a confession from Allonse, Wyatt still found himself in denial, unsure of his feelings. It took Allonse being hit by his smoking habits (that he had quit when he began hanging out with Wyatt) for Wyatt to realize his feelings, only it was a little too late for Allonse to rejoice, as he passed shortly after, his illness unable to be treated in time.
Prior to his death, Allonse began working on a second version of himself- his person in the form of an AI that would accompany Wyatt after he died. When Wyatt came home from Allonse's funeral, he was welcomed by the AI, and Wyatt made it his life goal to find some way to bring that version of Allonse into a physical form.

The Conclusion.
Wyatt desperately researched ways to create a physical form for the Allonse AI, though he lacked the technology to do so. He began to let his health decline to the point where he wouldn't eat properly, he'd stopped paying attention to his classwork, and more commonly so he'd fall asleep at his desk while the AI would watch him. No longer wanting Wyatt to suffer, he deleted himself, unable to be tracked, but he still existed to watch Wyatt, just in case that if he ever threatened his own life that he'd reappear and talk him out of it.
Years passed, and while Wyatt continued to hurt, and even developed necrophobia in fear of losing someone again to death, he eventually found another. He tortured himself with guilty feelings, not wanting to move on, but he knew he had to, so he eventually eased up to the idea, even if in the end he'd still regret it.
Wyatt eventually married the boy that he had at first hesitantly fallen in love with, and upon returning home from his wedding day, Allonse's AI was there to greet him. He told Wyatt how happy he was that he had moved on, and Wyatt excitedly expressed how much he missed Allonse and was looking forward to having him in his life again.

Though, this was not the case. After Wyatt had to log off for the night, Allonse permanently deleted himself, knowing Wyatt had moved on and that his original purpose had been served.
